Seeing a Consultant

When you come for your initial consultation with the doctor, they will start by taking a detailed history from both the man and woman to gather as much background information as possible.

At this first appointment the woman will usually have a transvaginal ultrasound ( internal) scan of the pelvis carried out to assess the womb and ovaries.

Other investigations which may be arranged are:

  • Detailed semen analysis
  • FSH and Oestradiol levels – taken on day 2 or 3 of the cycle
  • BMI measurement (female)

Photographic identification

You will be asked to bring copies of photo ID  to your first appointment to be kep with your medical record.

Welfare of the Child

The RFC is required to take account of the welfare of any child born as a result of fertility treatment in a licenced centre or any other child who may be affected by the birth. To enable us to do this all patients attending for their initial consultation will be asked to complete a short questionnaire. (see hfea website for more details)

Please note, when a female member of staff is requested by a patient, we will make every effort to accomodate this request, however no guarantee can be given that a female member of staff will be available for any specific appointment.
